WIP Wednesday

I am moving forward working on each of these for the time being.  OK well it is kinda slow, very slow...but it is still movement, And I do love creating.

I am going to have to find some more fabric I like for my yo-yo quilt.  Looks like a trip to the fabric store...one of our favorite things to do...girl day and a Super Sized craft store...we must get a late' on the way.

I had to unravel 80% of my shawl...UGH! it had started going crooked.  I so hate it when that happens...This is my "Take With Me" project and right now Trinity is out of Gymnastics so not too much is getting done on this one right now.  But next week she will be flippin' and I will be knittin'.

I have gotten much-much further on this one...It now has the red wool felt backing ( I had to re-stitch around every circle to attach it properly) Lesson Learned.  And I have started another and final row of Penny Rug Circles. I will show you it finished and in the lovely room I have been working on. No peeking.     

I so love this saying...and look at all the lovely abundance I am creating out of joy.

Fiber Arts Friday - Buttercup The Beautiful Bovine

BUTTERCUP THE BEAUTIFUL BOVINE

Knitting Pattern

FYI: I am hosting a Saturday and Sunday Sharing where you can come and link up with me and share your fabulous Creations.
This udderly beautiful bovine will add fun to your farm yard. The body is made separately from the legs, horns, udders and spots.

Materials

Size1 and size 2 knitting needles
Crochet hook
Darning Needle
Embroidery Needle
Sport Weight Wool yarn in:
     Cream
     Pink
     Tan
     Brown
     Black
Brown thread
Wool for stuffing

Instructions: Body

With size 2 needles and cream yarn cast on 30 stitches
K 36 rows
Row 37: K2tog, K6, K2 tog, K10, K2 tog,K6, K2 tog
Row 38: K
Row 39: K2tog, K to last two, K 2 tog
Row 40: Repeat last two rows until there are 18 stitches left on needle
Next: K 12, Turn K 6
Turn: K 5
Turn: K 4
Turn: K 2
Turn: K 4
Turn: K 6
Turn: K to end
Next: K2 tog, K to last two, K 2 tog
K 9 rows
Next: K 2 tog to end
Next: Leaving a long tail break yarn draw last stitches through yarn using a darning needle. Sew belly shut and stuff firmly with wool stuffing, but don't stretch the yarn. Sew up bottom adding more wool stuffing if needed.

Legs

Using size 1 needles and cream yarn Cast on 10 stitches
K for 18 rows
Next: Break Yarn leaving a long tail draw stitches up using a darning needle. Sew up side of leg and stuff. Make sure its firm as it will be what your cow is standing on. Sew up top and make three more.
And attach to underside.

Ears

Using size 1 needles and cream yarn cast on 4 Stitches
Next: K 7 rows
Row 8: K 2 tog, K 1
Row 9: K 2 tog, K 1
Cast off make 1 more and attach to head

Horns

Using the tan yarn and size 1 needle Cast on 6 stitches.
Work in Stocking stitch stitches work 12 rows
Next Row: K tog across row
Draw remaining 3 stitches together and sew up.
Make second horn And attach behind ears.

Udder

Use size 1 needle and pink yarn and work in stocking stitch
Cast on 16 stitches
K 6 rows
Break yarn and draw stitches together using the darning needle and sew ends together. It makes a bowl shape. Attach to the bottom of the cow pad with wool fleece.

Teats

Make 4
Use size 1 needle and pink yarn and work in stocking stitch
Cast on 4 stitches
K 4 rows
break yarn and draw stitches together and sew up side. Attach to udder.

Spots

Using crochet hook and brown yarn knit different lengths. Using thread and sewing needle attach chain in dot shapes on side of cows.

Tasty Tuesday - Forrest Black Forest Smoothie

FORREST BLACK FOREST SMOOTHIE

INGREDIANCE
1 Cup Dark Cherry Sorbet (kroger has this)
1 Cup frozen dark cherries
1/2 Cup Vanilla Soy Milk
2 T Agave Nector (or Sugar)
2 T Unsweetened cocoa powder

Combine everything in a blender or food processor and serve immediately to the kids jumping up and down for a chocolaty treat.

LITTLE EXTRA SUMTHIN' SUMTHIN'
I add powdered vitamin C and Nature Sunshine Fiber to my smoothies.  The C gives it a bit of zip in the taste and fights all those germies out there.  While the fiber keeps everything rolling along...to put it in a nice way.

Tasty Tuesday-Strawberry Jam Recipe

Strawberry Jam is very easy to make and only requires two ingredients fruit and sugar

Strawberry Jam
2 quarts Strawberries
6 cups of sugar

Wash, trim and crush strawberries.  Put them in a pot with sugar. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar dissolves and is no longer grainy. Cooked rapidly to gelling point, abut 30-40 minutes. (see note below for checking Gelling) Stir frequently.  Remove from heat and skim off foam if necessary (foam taste good in yogurt or on ice cream) Ladle hot jam into hot jars, leaving 1/4 inch head space.  Adjust two piece lids.  Process 15 minutes in a boiling water bath.  Makes about 4 pints.

Note
To check for jelling, wet a plate and put it in the freezer.  Take a dab of the jelly and put it on the frozen plate push it with a spoon.  If it wrinkles it is set and ready to can.

Girls Fluffy Fur Kerchief

Trinity Saw a Fluffy Fur Kerchief and just had to have one.  So I dug through my stash...and...wala...she has her very own Fluff Fur Kerchief.

THE STUFF
Boucle Yarn (Gives it some fur texture and I had it in my stash)
DK Yarn
Size 9 Knitting Needles
Size 4 Double Pointed Needles (you will need two)
Rug Hook
Pom-Pom Maker (see at the end)

INSTRUCTIONS
Using both the Boucle and DK
Cast on 1
K2 into front and back of stitch
K2 into first stitch, K to end (repeat until kerchief measures 18 inches remember this is for winter and needs to cover the ears) check against the head if you need it longer or shorter.
Bind off and tuck in your ends. 


TO ADD THE FUR
Cut both DK and Boucle into 2.5 inch pieces (this is where your little darling can help)
Using the rug hook and starting at the tip hook in one piece of yarn
Then every third row hook doing each type of yarn every other yarn (one DK piece, one Boucle, one DK piece, one Boucle, etc)
I added extra along the edge to make it fluffy

TO MAKE THE STRINGS
Using double pointed needs and DK yarn only
PU three stitches on end of longest end (the part that will be around the face)
Work in I-Cord for 16 inches and bind off
Repeat this at the other end of kerchief

TO MAKE THE POM-POMS

I used a clover Pom Pom maker along with the DK yarn.  This made the thickest, fluffiest pom-pom and was well worth it. It was so easy and made a much tighter pom-pom.

Attach the Pom Pom and then make brother try it on.

Doesn't he look like he has seen some holy vision?  I just had to put this on here.

You could have allot of fun with this pattern, maybe make the fluff a different color from the base. Make a smaller one for a doll.

WIP-Wednesday

I am working on a shawl for myself for the fall, finnally something for me.  The pattern is really easy and gives you a little open work for interest and fun. This is a great take along, you don't have to look at any charts or patterns, its really that easy.

The yarn I used is Starry Night by Red Heart Boutique the Eclipse line.  It's not as soft as I would like it but the colors worked with  my cold weather clothes.  Its hard to tell from the photo but the green isn't so bright and there is a stripe of turqoise and brown that doesn't show up very well.

This Recipe came from Trinity's "Mermaid Cookbook"  By: Barbara Beery

For fear of plagiarism I will just tell you the roll ups are slathered with cream cheese and hummus, stuffed with veg and feta cheese. 

 I do recommend getting this cook book, It is stuffed full of fun, easy and nutritious meals. We have made just about everything in it.  I originally got it for food ideas for her Mermaid birthday party.  One of our favorite dinner salads uses ramen noodles, a nice way to get picky eaters to eat there vegetable's.

WIP Wednesday

Everything I am working on seems to be a circle.  Last week I shared the Penny Rug

This has been fun to work on and collect fabric for.  I not very good with fabric, but I use the Yo-Yo maker and that made it so easy.  I just put the fabric in the form cut around it and then sewed through the holes, sliped it off and pulled in taunt and finished with a knot.  My doughter helped me with some of them.  Its a really great way to get the little ones started with a needle and thread.

This will be going in my dream bedroom of Pink Roses.  Along with some smaller yo-yos I am making to cover a pillow sham.  I am just going yo-yo crazy.  OH, the smaller ones can be sewn onto ponytail holders...too cute!

Has anyone ever sewn yo-yo's together to make a quilt? How do you do it? just go in the inside of the yo-yo? Do you start with one and work your way out? or do you go in rows? I sure would appreciate help with this part.

Here are a few ideas of where you can purchase what you need to make them,  what fun to pick out different fabrics.

Tasty Tuesday - Peacy Razzle Smoothie

PEACHY RAZZLE SMOOTHIE
1 Cup Fresh or Frozen Peach Slices
1 Cup Fresh or Frozen Raspberries
1 Cup Apricot Nectar
1 Container Raspberry Yogurt
1 T Honey
1 T Agave Nectar
1/2 T Powder Vitamin C (optional)
3 Ice Cubes

Process everything, except the Ice Cubes,  in a blender or food processors until smooth.  Garnish with additional peaches and/or raspberries.  Serve immediately.
